Amid the ongoing controversy and the recent Enforcement Directorate raids on L2: Empuraan movie producer Gokulam Gopalan, the film’s actor and director, Prithviraj Sukumar, has now reportedly received legal notices.
Malayalam star actor turned director Prithviraj Sukumaran recently delivered a massive hit with the latest release ‘L2: Empuraan.’ The film also stars Mohan Lal in the main lead. Even in the center of the controversy, the film continues breaking records, with box office collections grossing ₹91 crore, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film so far.
In an unexpected turn of events, after producer Gokulam Gopalan, it is reported that Prithviraj received legal notice from the IT department regarding the film remunerations for his previous works. However, the legal notices are unrelated to L2: Empuraan, but the remuneration structure from his three 2022 releases: Jana Gana Mana, Gold, and Kadavu.
Reports suggest that Prithviraj, who played lead roles in these films, opted to receive payments solely as a co-producer and has not taken as an actor. The Income Tax Department, as part of a routine assessment, has now questioned this arrangement, issuing a legal notice last week and asked for an explanation by April 29.
On the work front, Prithviraj is currently working on SS Rajamouli’s prestigious global project ‘SSMB 29,’ starring alongside Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Meanwhile, the Empuraan team has also confirmed the third installment, titled ‘L3: The Beginning.’
