IIT Experts To Inspect Unfinished Structures In AP Capital Amaravati

A team of IIT experts is set to visit the Amaravati region, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. As part of this visit, they will assess the unfinished structures in the capital area. It is well-known that the construction work in Amaravati was halted after the YSRCP government came to power in the 2019 elections. However, with the coalition government led by Chandrababu Naidu coming to power in the recent elections, the situation has changed. The new government has decided to expedite the capital’s construction work.

Some buildings that began construction before 2019 were left incomplete, while others remained unfinished after the completion of foundation work. The government has decided to first estimate the stability of these halted structures. In this context, the government has decided to study iconic buildings with completed foundations, as well as other constructions, with the help of IIT engineers.

The responsibility of verifying the stability of the foundations of these iconic buildings has been assigned to IIT Chennai. Similarly, the task of determining the stability of quarters for public representatives, officials, and employees has been given to IIT Hyderabad, as recently announced by Municipal Minister P. Narayana. The government intends to move forward with construction based on the report provided by the IIT experts.

Today, IIT engineers are expected to arrive in Amaravati to study the condition of buildings whose construction started before 2019 but were halted midway. They will examine the stability and other technical aspects of these structures. The previous TDP government had begun work to construct the Secretariat, HOD office towers, and High Court building as iconic structures, laying substantial foundations. However, these constructions were stopped at the foundation stage.

The IIT team will assess the capacity of these foundations. Two teams of engineers from IIT Madras and IIT Hyderabad will visit Amaravati for two days. They will inspect the buildings and evaluate their quality and capacity. During their visit to Amaravati, the engineers from both teams will meet separately with CRDA officials. This information was provided by the office of the AP Municipal and Urban Development Minister.
