Amidst this resurgence, one of the greatest of Tollywood classics is set to hit the re-releases on a large scale: Shiva, the cult classic that launched Akkineni Nagarjuna’s career. Directed by the Ram Gopal Varma, Shiva made history for the Telugu film industry and is regularly credited with re-hematizing the face of Telugu cinema. The movie opened up new avenues for courageous narration and unconventional narrative structures, breaking away from conventional practices and setting new standards for moviemakers to draw upon.
Shiva is unanimously recognized as a milestone in Telugu cinema. It transformed how moviemakers produced a film and how viewers connected with films. Even after decades, it is discussed as a game-changer—a benchmark in the tradition of Telugu filmmaking.
Now, this film classic is being released back to cinemas. First appearing on the big screen in 1989, Shiva will be re-released in 4K, something that had been awaited long and eagerly by fans who had yearned to see the movie in high-definition quality. Nagarjuna and Ram Gopal Varma, two of those who had labored day and night in order to make this venture a reality, have now opted for the best time to re-release it.
In a tribute to his late father, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, on the occasion of his 101st birthday, Nagarjuna has finally announced the re-release date of Shiva. He revealed that his father used to always believe in the timeless strength of cinema, and Shiva was the best proof of it. In respect of his father’s memory, Nagarjuna will re-release Shiva on November 14 in 4K Dolby Atmos.
