The Telangana High Court has clarified the guidelines for the immersion of Ganesh idols in Hussain Sagar, Hyderabad. The court has allowed the immersion of clay and eco-friendly idols in the lake. However, it has ordered that idols made from Plaster of Paris (POP) should be immersed only in temporary or artificial water bodies set up by the GHMC. The court has directed adherence to the guidelines established in 2021 for immersions.
A petition challenging the implementation of these orders was dismissed by the court, which noted that the petitioner failed to provide adequate evidence of contempt. The court deemed the contempt petition invalid at the final stage of immersion. It also clarified that Hydra could not be included as a respondent, as it was not present during the previous orders. The court ruled that a ban on the manufacture of POP idols could not be imposed and suggested that the petitioner could file a writ petition for special directions if needed.
