The Telangana High Court has expressed its anger against Medak BJP MP M. Raghunandan Rao and has warned that a contempt of court case will be registered against him. It has taken these steps against comments made by the BJP MP on the court hearing a House motion petition filed by its leader film actor Akkineni Nagarjuna on the occasion of the demolition of the N Convention building by HYDRA.
A letter written by a High Court judge to the Chief Justice on these comments has been considered by the Chief Justice Bench Sumoto as a contempt of court petition. The Judge stated in the complaint letter that the comments made by MP Raghunandan Rao are tarnishing the judicial system and dishonoring the system itself.
In the letter, he expressed concern that the reputation of the judiciary would be tarnished due to such comments. A bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Arathe and Justice Srinivasa Rao issued notices to Raghunandan Rao asking him to explain why this complaint should not be considered as a Sumoto contempt petition.
Last month, Akkineni Nagarjuna filed the petition in the High Court at a time when HYDRA was demolishing the N Convention Center buildings and requested to grant stay orders. This was accepted as a High Court Registry House Motion Petition. A single judge bench issued an order stopping the demolition work.
MP Raghunandan Rao made some comments in a media conference against these orders on 24th of last month. He questioned the propriety of issuing stay orders and recalled that the High Court had earlier ordered the demolition of the N Convention building in 2014, and asked now how can the same High Court stay the demolition work. ?
He commented that the registry has shown zeal on the House motion petition and the judicial system has given contrary orders. Judges should not take decisions in such haste, he said and commented that it is not reasonable for a judge to take such decisions without considering the previous orders and without taking the situation into proper perspective.
