High Court Seeks Details From Speaker’s Secretary on Jagan’s Opposition Leader Petition

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing by three weeks on the petition filed by YSRCP chief and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, seeking the position of Leader of the Opposition in the assembly. During the hearing, Jagan’s counsel informed the court that the YSRCP had already appealed to the Speaker to grant them this status.

On Tuesday, the High Court issued notices to the Speaker’s secretary and the assembly secretary, requesting detailed information on the matter. The court has set the next hearing date for three weeks from now.

Jagan’s lawyer argued that the denial of opposition status was being done in a vindictive manner. The court inquired if Jagan had formally represented himself to the Speaker as the Leader of the Opposition. The lawyer confirmed that such a representation was made on the 24th of last month. Subsequently, the judge issued notices.
