The High Court has rejected the request of former minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao for an urgent inquiry into the Kaleshwaram Commission report. He had recently filed an interim petition seeking an inquiry. He told the court that the government had decided to conduct a CBI inquiry.
The AG told the court that action would be taken only after a discussion in the Assembly. He said that the decision was taken to hand over the case to the CBI without a resolution in the Assembly. He asked for instructions not to take further action until tomorrow. The High Court rejected this request.
Despite repeated requests from Harish Rao’s lawyer, the court did not agree. On the other hand, the CJ bench asked the government’s lawyer to know the government’s decision on the Kaleshwaram report. He replied that he would tell it tomorrow or the day after. The High Court ordered him to tell the government’s decision by tomorrow. Later, the hearing was adjourned to tomorrow.
Former CM KCR and former Minister Harish Rao filed petitions in the High Court on August 20 to quash the government’s order of March 14, 2024, appointing a commission on the Kaleshwaram project. The petition stated that the government had issued orders to set up the commission as part of a political strategy to discredit the KCR-led government without any evidence.
It was stated that the government’s giving the report to media publications without providing even a copy of it was malicious and against the principles of natural law. The respondents in this case included the Chief Secretary to the Government, the Principal Secretary to the Irrigation Department, and Justice Ghosh and the Commission.
These petitions are currently under consideration by the High Court Registry. Former Minister Harish Rao filed an interim petition after the bill to hand over the investigation into the Kaleshwaram project to the CBI was passed in the recent legislative session.
On the other hand, BRS members staged a protest in the Telangana Legislative Council. It is known that the assembly has decided to hand over the investigation into the Kaleshwaram project to the CBI. Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLCs surrounded the podium of the council chairman and raised slogans against this decision.
They shouted slogans of Jai Telangana. Bharat Rashtra Samithi members tore up copies of the Kaleshwaram Commission report and threw it at the chairman.
