The AP High Court has rejected the bail petition of YSRCP leader and former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi, in a case registered against him for allegedly attacking the Gannavaram TDP office and insulting computer operator Satyavardhan in the name of caste.
Justice T. Mallikarjuna Rao delivered the verdict on Friday. During the YSRCP government, Vallabhaneni Vamsi’s followers attacked the Gannavaram TDP office in Krishna district, set vehicles on fire, and attacked and injured several people. Satyavardhan, who was working as a computer operator in the party office, was insulted in the name of caste.
Based on the complaint filed by Satyavardhan in this matter, the Gannavaram police registered a case on February 22, 2023, naming several people as accused. Vamsi, who is currently in judicial remand, approached the High Court after the trial court refused to grant bail.
The judge who recently conducted the final hearing on the case dismissed the bail petition. “If we examine the details before the court, it is understood that Vamsi’s followers threatened the complainant Satyavardhan and forced him to take him to court and make him give a statement to withdraw the case”, he said.
Moreover, “The investigation agency has collected primary evidence to support the allegations against Vamsi’s role in the incident. If Vamsi was not involved in forcing the complainant to withdraw the case, his bail application would have been considered on par with other accused in the case”, he added.
“But if we examine the statements submitted to the prosecution court, there is primary evidence about the role of the petitioner in the incident. The investigation of the case is currently at a crucial stage. A charge sheet is about to be filed. Granting bail at this stage will have a negative impact on the investigation”, the Judge observed.
“The incidents of threatening the complainant are repeated. The senior prosecution lawyer’s concern that if the petitioner is released on bail, witnesses may be influenced and evidence may be tampered with is justified”, the judge said. Considering these factors, the bail petition is being dismissed.
It was clarified that if the circumstances change, bail can be approached in the sessions court. Meanwhile, the High Court has granted conditional bail to Kaila Adilakshmi, Kaila Shivakumar, Neelam Praveenkumar, Racheti Ruthamma, Mohammed Maulana Abdul Kalam and Sheikh Sardar Jani, who are accused in the same case.
