Heavy Rain Forecast To Andhra And Telangana Again

Even before recuperating from the devastation caused by the recent torrential rains and the subsequent floods that claimed several lives, causing irreparable damage to thousands of families, another threat looms large over Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as the Indian Meteorological Department issued heavy rain alert for the next couple of days.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the next two days due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The IMD in a press release on September 7 said, “Isolated very heavy rainfall is very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Telangana on September 8 and 9.

According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy downpours are likely at isolated places, particularly in Eluru, ASR, East Godavari, West Godavari, and NTR districts. These districts have been placed under an orange alert. Rainfall is expected to persist through Sunday, with further warnings for other districts, including Konaseema, Kakinada, Yanam and Visakhapatnam.

The rain forecast adds to the existing challenges of both AP and Telangana which are already facing the wrath of nature due to heavy inundation of Vijayawada and Khammam on the last two days of August. These floods left a trail of devastation and claimed numerous lives in both states. The rescue operations are currently underway and any further rains will only hamper them.
