The promise of dropping the cases against the HCU students who prevented the Congress government from destroying the Kancha Gachibowli lands has not materialized. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has announced to immediately drop all the cases and free the students from the cases, but the Gachibowli police are saying that no orders have been received from the government even after two weeks.
With this, the students are angry that all that Bhatti said is empty words. They are demanding that the illegal cases be dropped as per their word. On March 30, the students peacefully protested demanding the return of bulldozers from the 400 acres under the HCU limits. Hundreds of police personnel tried to disperse the students, but they did not move from there.
As a result, the police indiscriminately dragged the students and threw them into a van. The girls’ clothes were torn, but they dragged them by their hair, ignoring the fact that they were being dragged away. In this process, cases were registered against HCU PhD scholars Erram Naveen and Rohit under various stringent sections for resisting the police action.
They alleged that they were attacked and that Madhapur ACP Srikanth Reddy was injured. Cases were registered under sections 118(1), 132, 191(3), 329(3), 351(3) of the Indian Penal Code. They were taken to Kandi Jail in Sangareddy district. They were released on bail after 15 days. They are still roaming around the court.
They are demanding that the illegal cases filed against them be dismissed. On the same day, 54 more students were taken to Gachibowli police station and a case was registered under section 170 of the BNSS. The students are demanding that the government, as promised, drop the illegal cases filed against them.
The students are angry that illegal cases have been filed against them for protesting against the felling of trees on HCU lands. They deplored that even though they have been released from jail on bail, the investigation is still ongoing. They were summoned to come to court again for investigation on the 25th.
