Harish Kumar Gupta Appointed as New DGP of Andhra Pradesh

Harish Kumar Gupta has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Andhra Pradesh, confirmed by the government on Wednesday. Chief Secretary K. Vijay Anand made the announcement and the move is just ahead of the retirement of the present DGP, C.H. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who retires on January 31.

Gupta is a 1992-batch IPS officer who is presently the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement Department. He was also the DGP when the general elections were held and was appointed by the Election Commission. After the change in political leadership with the coalition of TDP, BJP, and Jana Sena, Tirumala Rao was made the DGP. Therefore, when the outgoing DGP leaves, the duty of law and order in this state will shift to Gupta as he takes charge of this place.
