Review :

Directed by Krishna Chaitanya and starring Vishwak Sen, Neha Sshetty, and Anjali, “Gangs of Godavari” aims to portray a gritty action drama set in a bygone era. Vishwak Sen shines as Rathna, embodying his character’s determination and intensity with authenticity. His portrayal of Lankala Rathna, complete with a seamless transition in dialect, is both captivating and genuine. Anjali impresses as Rathnamala, delivering a performance brimming with boldness and nuance. Neha Sshetty, portraying Bujji, delivers a solid performance, serving as both Rathna’s weakness and strength, although her character’s development could have been more robust.

Krishna Chaitanya adeptly establishes the rural Godavari region and its inhabitants in the first half, providing insights into the lives of the locals and their political adversaries, Nanaji (Nassar) and Doraswami (Goparaju Ramana). The film benefits from seasoned performances by Nassar, Goparaju Ramana, and Hyper Aadi, lending credibility to the narrative. However, the rushed screenplay and uneven writing in the second half detract from the film’s potential. Ayesha Khan, who appears in a special song.

Several action sequences are expertly choreographed, contributing to the film’s gripping moments. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s musical score enhances the film’s ambiance, though some songs may fall short of expectations. “Gangs of Godavari” boasts high production values, resulting in a polished and captivating cinematic experience. However, there is room for improvement in the editing department.

“Gangs of Godavari” starts off strongly, with Vishwak Sen delivering a nuanced performance that delves into themes of ambition, survival, and the intricate dynamics of power. However, as the film unfolds, it gradually loses its impact, primarily due to its lackluster screenplay in the latter half. Despite this, the film is worth watching for its commendable performances and striking visual aesthetics.
