The new government in the state is taking steps for a full-scale probe into the irregularities and misuse of funds at the TTD during the last five years of YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s regime. The vigilance officers have started probing into irregularities in the constructions undertaken in the engineering department, utilization of Srivani Trust funds and the allotment of VIP darshan tickets.
It may be recalled that soon after taking oath, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who reached Tirumala with his family members, announced the cleaning of the administration in the state begins from TTD. Following his instructions, officials of the state vigilance department are conducting a confidential scrutiny of the files.
According to sources, vigilance officials are particularly focusing on irregularities reported in five specific areas. They are focusing on the allocation of Arjit Seva, VIP break darshan tickets, expenditure of hundreds of crores of rupees in the engineering department, sale of Srivani Trust tickets and modernization of hostels in Tirumala.
Vigilance officials have paid special attention to the utilization of the funds collected by allotting darshan tickets through Srivani Trust. They are inquiring about the construction of temples and restoration works of ancient temples with the funds of Srivani Trust. Vigilance officials have also investigated the spending of crores of rupees in the name of modernization of devotees’ accommodation in Tirumala during the YSRCP regime.
Details of funds allocated for modernization of Varahaswamy Guest House, Narayangiri Dormitory and accommodation for general devotees are being collected.
On the other hand, tenders for hostels, which have been constructed at a cost of 460 crore rupees after demolishing Govindaraja Swamy satram in Tirupati, are being thoroughly examined.
In Tirumala, measures have been initiated to identify irregularities in the allotment of cottages under the donation system. Documents are being examined on Nitya Annadanam, purchase of raw materials required for preparation of Laddu Prasad, etc.
