Former Member of Parliament and YSR Congress Party leader Gorantla Madhav was produced before the Guntur Mobile Court on Thursday, where he was remanded to judicial custody until April 24. Following the court’s order, Madhav was transferred to Nellore Jail. The arrest was made on charges of obstructing police duties during the discharge of official responsibilities. The court also remanded five other individuals in connection with the same case.
According to police, the incident took place while officers were escorting Chebrolu Kiran Kumar—who was taken into custody for making objectionable remarks against YS Bharathi—to the SP office. Madhav allegedly attempted to block the police convoy at Chuttugunta Junction in Guntur by positioning his vehicle across the road and made an attempt to assault the accused. Police stated that this act disrupted official proceedings.
After undergoing a medical examination at Guntur Government Hospital, Madhav was presented before a special mobile court. His counsel, Advocate Ponnavolu Sudhakar, appealed against the remand, but the request was denied by the judge.
Sources indicate that Madhav behaved in an unruly manner on court premises. He reportedly declined to speak to the media and expressed displeasure, questioning whether a former MP should be brought before the media in such a manner.
