Former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Arrested In Hyderabad

YSRCP leader and former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi has been arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police at his residence in Hyderabad at 7 am on Thursday and being shifted to Vijayawada. He is accused in the attack on Gannavaram TDP office during YSRCP regime. Several other cases are also pending against him.

Police arrested Vamsi’s followers a few days ago. Since then, they have been searching for Vamsi. The AP High Court reserved verdict on his anticipatory bail for February 20.

On February 20, 2023, the followers of then MLA Vamsi attacked the Gannavaram TDP office. They vandalized the TDP office for about 5 hours. Although TDP leaders filed cases in this regard at that time, the police stalled the investigation. This case has regained momentum after the alliance came to power in the state.

The police detained 20 of those who created havoc at that time.

Vamsi, who made his political debut through the TDP, elected from Gannavaram as MLA twice on behalf of the TDP. But, as YCP came to power in 2019, being a TDP MLA he remained functioning as an YCP activist making severe and abusive accusations against TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Nara  Lokesh without restraint. Finally, he also made abusive criticisms of Chandrababu’s wife Bhuvaneswari.

Vamsi, who contested on behalf of the YSRCP in the 2024 elections, suffered a crushing defeat. Left the counting center midway and since then, he has been hiding. The AP police are looking for Vamsi, who is an accused in several cases.  The police have filed a case against former  Vamsi and a total of 88 people in the attack on the Gannavaram TDP office.

The police had previously registered a case based on the complaint of Satyavardhan, who works in the TDP Gannavaram office. However, suddenly, two days ago the complainant Satyavardhan gave an affidavit in the high court that he had nothing to do with the case, shocking the ruling TDP.

However, the police came to know that Satyavardhan was kidnapped and threatened to withdraw the complaint. With this, the police detained Satyavardhan and questioned him. He said that Vamsi’s followers kidnapped him and threatened him to withdraw the complaint. With this, the police registered another case against Vamsi and his followers.

Satya Vardhan was brought to the court that day by Vamsi’s followers in a car. In this regard, the police registered a kidnapping case against a total of five people. A case of SC and ST atrocity was also registered by Vijayawada Patamata Police.

Meanwhile, after the TDP came to power, the party leaders thought that action would be taken against some people who had acted aggressively against the TDP when the YSRCP was in power. It is known that Nara Lokesh had also created a ruckus in the past in the name of Red Book.

But after coming to power as the government keeping mum, the TDP cadre became restless, took to social media to criticize the government for not taking any action against those who committed irregularities. At this juncture, the arrest of Vamsi has become significant.
