Former YSRCP Deputy Chief Minister Narayana Swamy has reportedly given evasive answers to the questions of the SIT officials in the liquor scam, saying, ‘I don’t know anything, only the higher-ups know everything.’ When asked about the changes in the liquor policy, he replied that he was not aware of the changes in the policy.
It is learnt that Narayanaswamy did not respond to the issue of setting aside the online system for liquor orders either. He said that he had nothing to do with the questions about who pressured him to set aside digital payments, which was the decision of the higher-ups.
Narayana Swamy was questioned by the SIT officials for more than 6 hours on Friday as part of the investigation into the liquor case during the YSRCP regime at his residence in Puttur, Tirupati district. He was questioned about the removal of the online system for liquor orders and the introduction of a manual system.
Narayana Swamy served as the Excise Minister in the YSRCP government. He reportedly replied that he had nothing to do with the formulation of the liquor policy and its sales, and that everything was the decision of his superiors. The SIT officials questioned him about the evidence collected with the information provided by Raj Kasireddy and others.
Later, Narayana Swamy told the media at his residence after the inquiry that he had answered all the questions of the SIT officials. He alleged that baseless allegations were being made against him in the liquor case. He said that he would cooperate with the inquiry in the future as well and asked people not to believe the rumors against him.
“The SIT officials asked me some questions. I answered all the questions they asked. I also told them that I would cooperate whenever the SIT officials called me for questioning. The SIT officials gave me a notice to appear for questioning again,” Narayana Swamy said.
