Whenever a man-made disaster occurs, the authorities concerned will be held accountable for their laxity. Also, the ministry under which the issue falls will need to bear the brunt of the public condemnation. In the last five years, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has faced the ire of the public for some of the most tragic train accidents in the history of Indian Railways that claimed hundreds of lives.
The new cabinet of Modi 3.0 was sworn in a few days ago and Andhra Pradesh MP Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu became the youngest minister of the country. He was allotted the prestigious Civil Aviation Ministry by Modi government. Ram Mohan Naidu is a popular politician not just in Telugu States but across the country because of his eloquent speeches in the parliament in the last five years.
Immediately after assuming charge of Civil Aviation , Ram Mohan Naidu received the first big challenge as a minister. Earlier today, tragedy struck Delhi airport when one of the roofs at Terminal 1 collapsed, leaving one dead and several injured severely. The incident resulted in many cars (mainly taxis) being stuck under the debris.
The Opposition parties wasted no time in claiming that the collapsed roof was the one which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few years ago. Responding immediately on these remarks, Ram Mohan Naidu clarified that the roof inaugurated by Modi was a different one and not which was collapsed today morning.
Naidu said a national wide audit would be carried out in the wake of this tragedy. He expressed deep condolences to the deceased and those who were injured in the mishap. He announced a solatium of Rs 20 lakhs to the family of the person who passed away in the incident and Rs 3 lakhs those who are getting treated for injuries.
Despite his inexperience as minister, Ram Mohan Naidu acted very swiftly and also handled the critics in a diplomatic manner. He avoided disgrace to Prime Minister by clarifying that the roof which collapsed is an old one that was installed in 2009.
