In a significant turn of events concerning the reported liquor scam under the previous YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh, shocking developments have been unearthed during police questioning of Raj Kasireddy, who goes by the alias Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy. The investigation is part of a broader probe by the ruling coalition government against corruption and improprieties within the state-controlled liquor supply chain.
There have always been allegations that, during the YSRCP rule, low-quality liquor was sold at exorbitant rates, with influential syndicates reaping huge profits. This was followed by the fact that all liquor shops belonged to the government and did not accept digital payment methods like PhonePe or Google Pay. This, the opponents say, led to bulk cash transactions and a history of unaccounted cash, which generated suspicions of fiscal improprieties and corruption.
Raj Kasireddy was apprehended for interrogation on Monday night, and interrogation proceeded in installments up until Tuesday evening. The investigators report that he made known major pieces of information about the internal structure of the liquor policy and how it is administered.
Investigators are said to have focused on four main areas, the most crucial being: Who formulated and steered the controversial liquor policy in the YSRCP government? Kasireddy is said to have singled out main party leaders, naming names without fear.
Sources indicated that Kasireddy mentioned YSRCP top leader’s son Vikrant Reddy among the influential individuals on board. He also identified the role of Sai Reddy, whom he blamed for being greatly active in distillery affairs management and policy implementation. In Kasireddy’s words, despite the limited role he played, he had attended four high-level meetings conducted in Tadepalli, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru where important decisions were taken.
Kasireddy also disclosed that the overall decisions regarding liquor sales targets, money flows, and operational management were taken by three key persons from Tadepalli. Among them, he identified former government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy — a disclosure that has rocked political circles. He also spoke of a former minister being involved in decisions regarding liquor distribution strategy and personnel.
In the wake of these revelations, Raj Kasireddy was brought to court by the police for further prosecution. In the course of the ongoing investigation, further information will come forth that will have a long-term effect on Andhra Pradesh’s political and administrative landscape.
