After a massive election campaign for several weeks, the 2024 assembly polling finally ended in Maharashtra and Jharkhand today. Now, the focus shifts towards the much anticipated results which are going to be announced on November 23rd.
In Maharashtra, it is the Mahayuti alliance led by BJP, NCP led by Ajit Pawar faction and Eknath Shinde’s Shiva Sena which took on Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition formed by Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s SS and NCP-SP in 288 Seats. In Jharkhand, the contest is between the NDA and the Mahagathabandhan led by JMM and Congress in 81 seats.
As the polls concluded by today evening, the exit polls surveys are finally out with popular pollsters and psephologists giving out their predictions for both these high-stakes battles. Going by the these predictions so far, the BJP led alliances are clearly ahead in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand. While the Mahayuti is likely to retain the second term in Maharashtra, NDA is set to clinch power from INDIA bloc led JMM and occupy the throne in Jharkhand.
Popular exit poll surveys like Chanakya Strategies, People’s Pulse, CNN News 18, Matrize and P-Marq have predicted an outright victory for Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra as the coalition of parties are likely to win more than 150 Seats and secure a decisive majority.
Only Lokshahi Marathi-Rudra Exit Poll projected a hung in Maharashtra with the following seat distribution for Maharashtra’s 288-seat assembly: NDA is expected to secure between 128 and 142 seats, MVA is likely to win between 125 and 140 seats, and the “Others” category is forecasted to claim 18 to 23 seats.
Coming to Jharkhand, both People’s Pulse and Matrize predicted that BJP coalition is set to romp home with more than 41 seats out of the 81. Meanwhile, Axis My India survey predicts that INDIA bloc with win more than 50 seats to retain power in Jharkhand.
However, going by the recent history about how the original results unfolded compared to the exit polls, these predictions should be taken with a pinch of salt as the pulse of voters will be out in three more days when the official counting gets underway.
