As the stage is set for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch capital Amaravati development works on Friday, everyone is keen to know what will PM Modi bring with him for the capital city?
It may be recalled that Prime Minister Modi had earlier laid the foundation stone of Amaravati for the first time on October 22, 2015. Everyone expected at that time he would make a big announcement to extend support for the construction of the capital city. But, disappointing all, including his own BJP leaders, he simply brought river Yamuna Water and Delhi soil only.
Whatever the reasons, the Amaravati project has not taken off as expected since then. The Center also never showed any interest towards AP Capital. Later, soon after coming to power, YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy shelved the capital project in the name of `three- capitals’. As a result, the Amaravati project was completely stalled.
Even though thousands of crores of rupees had already been spent on Amaravati, Jagan did not care about it. Even though the then CM Jagan had a chance to tell him that there was no need to stall Amaravati, Prime Minister Modi did not do that.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu later criticized Prime Minister Modi severely on the same issue. He tweeted on April 1, 2019, asking whether those who have thrown mud and water in their faces by saying that they will develop Amaravati into a cosmopolitan city have the right to talk about themselves?
Along with Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan was also the one who severely criticized Modi on the issue of special status. But now the calculations have changed. After contesting together in the last election and winning, all the leaders have forgotten the old issues.
Actually, including local farmers, many are wondering about the need for bringing PM Modi again for the second time to restart the Amaravati works. Many works now PM Modi is laying the foundation were actually started during the previous TDP regime. However, unlike in the past, this time the project has taken off because the Center has provided loans from the World Bank and other financial institutions to speed up the capital works.
In the current situation of Andhra Pradesh, if the Modi government had not provided these loans, it would not have made any progress in Amaravati. Many people have come to believe that the Amaravati project will be completed in this term due to the assistance received from the Center.
However, everyone keenly observes that what will Prime Minister Modi bring this time when he is coming to restart the Amaravati works? What will he say is a matter of interest to everyone?
