The Central Election Commission of India (ECI) has expressed its anger over the violent incidents that took place in many places including Palnadu and Chandragiri, even after polling. It is more worried over ruling party goons reported plots at strongrooms, where EVMs were deposited.
Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena has summoned Chief Secretary Jawahar Reddy and DGP Harish Kumar seeking explanation on the incidents of post-poll violence. He ordered the DGP to take immediate action against those responsible for the riots.
As it was identified that YCP candidates were responsible for post-poll violent incidents, Meena directed to keep all such candidates under house arrest. He said that probationary orders were promulgated under Section 144 in all such places and additional forces were deployed.
He warned that those responsible for such incidents will be booked and sent to jail. AP asked the DGP to arrest those who vandalized EVMs and send them to jail. He also warned that strict action will be taken against the police who acted negligently in preventing the incidents that took place in many districts. CEO MK Meena stated that a police picket has been set up in 715 areas in the state.
Meanwhile, no matter how many measures the Election Commission is taking the ruling party leaders are reportedly planning for large-scale manipulations at the strong rooms where the EVMs are kept. It is suspected that violent incidents taking place in Macherla, Karampudi, Tirupati, Tadipatri, Narasaraopet and other places were part of such a plot.
Opposition leaders alleged that the police force has completely failed to stop the attacks. In addition to this, some policemen are still paying attention to the YCP leaders in some areas. Police have identified seven policemen in Macherla, who had provided prior information on movements of additional forces to the local YCP candidate. They were kept under suspension.
