The Gopalapuram police have arrested Dr. Namratha, the manager of Srushti Test Tube Baby Center in Secunderabad, in connection with the father swapping case. She was also detained along with two lab technicians. The police questioned the staff till 2 am and took away several key documents and sperm samples. The police also conducted raids on their centers in VIjayawada and Visakhapatnam.
It was found that the Srushti Test Tube Center has links with the Indian Sperm Tech company. A woman approached Dr. Namratha to conceive a child with her husband’s sperm, but she was impregnated with the sperm of another man. The health of the baby boy who was born deteriorated. Tests were conducted and it was found that he had cancer.
As a result, the parents got the baby’s DNA tested. The couple approached the police as the baby’s DNA was different from the husband’s DNA. The police registered a case and started an investigation. The Telangana Task Force Police went to Vijayawada and arrested the hospital manager Namrata and seven people working at the center.
In 2019, Dr. Namrata was also arrested in connection with a case. They took Rs. 12.5 lakh from a couple from Visakhapatnam on the pretext of providing a child through surrogacy and then swindled them. Based on the complaint of the victims, the Secunderabad Gopalapuram police registered a case. The Telangana Medical Council cancelled the hospital’s license for five years.
Later, in 2020, the police found that the hospital was being run under the name of Dr. Karuna by obtaining a license. On Saturday, officials from the Revenue, Police and Medical Departments inspected the Srushti Test Tube Baby Center. They found 50 sperm stored illegally. Officials said that some young men were being collected by promising money.
Targeting childless couples, the Srishti Test Tube Baby Center has expanded its medical business empire. They are hiring agents and luring poor women for surrogacy. Medical sources said that Universal Srishti Center has a history of selling babies through IVF procedures with the hope of money. IVF centers have been set up in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata under the name of Dr. Namrata Srishti.
It is known that this business is being run by organizing medical camps, identifying poor women and promising them money. The Srishti Test Tube Baby Center was set up in Visakhapatnam in 2010. After receiving complaints, the hospital was converted into Universal Srishti Center.
