Ram Charan’s next movie Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The word around the film has been electric since the title glimpse was dropped, and the fans are eagerly waiting for more. One of the biggest reasons for the buzz is none other than Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman, who is composing the music for this big-budget entertainer.
But now Rahman has landed into a legal row that has made headlines in the film industry. The Delhi High Court has instructed him and Madras Talkies to pay ₹2 crore by way of damages in a matter of copyright violation. The controversy is related to the song Veera Raja Veera from Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2, sung by Rahman.
The case was brought by renowned classical singer Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar. He alleged that Rahman employed the melody of an old devotional song which was written by his father, Ustad Faiyazuddin Dagar, and uncle, Ustad Zahiruddin Dagar. The court favored Dagar and stated that the song was indeed used without any credit or permission.
Following this verdict, fans of Peddi have grown a bit anxious. With such high expectations from Rahman’s music, the recent controversy has raised questions about how it might affect the soundscape of Peddi.
Nonetheless, the excitement for Peddi remains strong. One hopes that Rahman returns with new and innovative songs that will take the film to yet another level.
