Delhi Battle: BJP wrests control As Arvind And Sisodia Lose

In a huge blow to the Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP), which won the Delhi assembly elections for the last two terms with a resounding majority, the 2025 results are likely to hand over a big embarrassment as its founder Arvind Kejriwal and his close aide Manish Sisodia, who faced arrest in the controversial liquor policy, have been defeated by the respective BJP candidates in those segments.

As we await the final results, the BJP is comfortably placed to win more than 45 seats out of the 70 segments and emerge victorious. AAP is leading in more than 20 constituencies. The Congress party bagged another humiliation by not opening its account so far and is likely to settle with a naught in these polls.

BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma outwitted Arvind Kejriwal in a closely fought contest from the New Delhi seat. In another setback to AAP, former education minister Manish Sisodia lost to Tarvinder Singh Marwah from Jangpura constituency. The only saving grace for AAP was that current Chief Minister Atishi Marlena, who took over after the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, won from Kalkaji segment by a slender margin of 900 votes against BJP’s Ramesh Badhuri.

Atish’s win was the only positive in an otherwise gloomy day for the Aam Aadmi Party which saw heavyweights lose to the BJP from their respective seats.

The Narendra Modi-led party has yet to announce its CM candidate. As of today, there is no indication of who the BJP’s CM face might be. However, there are reports that Parvesh Verma is likely to be named as the CM of Delhi by the high command given his strong political background and clean image among the supporters. Others like Sisra, Dushyanth Gautam and Harish Khurana are also in the race.
