Dalit groups have filed a police complaint against former minister and YSRCP leader RK Roja in the case of carrying slippers with an employee at Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla of combined Guntur district. A complaint was filed against her at the 3rd Town Police Station in Kurnool city on Saturday. The police have registered a case against her.
Last year, in February 2023, when Minister of Tourism RK Roja visited Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla district, an employee carrying her chappels attracted the attention of the media.
In this context, Dalit groups have filed a complaint against her at the police station, alleging that she insulted Dalits. RK Roja took charge as the Tourism Minister in the previous YS Jagan government. In that order, she went to Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla last year.
The minister was welcomed by officials at the Tourism Department resorts and taken to the beach. Before entering the sea water, she took off her slippers on the shore. She asked her personal assistant to look after them carefully. With this, Sivanaga Raju, an employee of the local tourism department, carried the minister’s slippers by hand for a while and then put them aside.
After that, Minister RK Roja, who returned from the beach, went to the resorts wearing the slippers. Photos and videos related to this went viral on social media. With this, netizens are criticizing Roja’s affair. Are we still in a democratic regime? Or are we in a kingdom of aristocrats? Netizens are expressing their anger at Roja.
It is also known that RK Roja’s behavior has become extremely controversial after taking charge as a minister. Against the conventions, frequently visiting Sri Vari temple at Tirumala, she spoke to the media outside Ananda Nilayam and made political criticisms of those leaders of the opposition parties.
In this context, the new TTD Governing Council in its first meeting, took a key decision that politics should not be discussed in Tirumala. It has made it clear that strict action will be taken if that is done.
