Not long ago, Telugu producer Naga Vamshi took pride in the high standards set by Telugu cinema during a roundtable discussion with Bollywood folks. He defended that Tollywood has changed the perception of Indian films and also dominated the Hindi circuits in the last few years.
Meanwhile, a song from his upcoming film is getting roasted on social media for lewd and obscene dance moves. The third song from Daaku Maharaj, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role, was out on Thursday and immediately started receiving severe backlash from netizens for its indecent choreography.
Dabidi Dibidi is a typical mass song featuring Balakrishna and item girl Urvashi Rautela. While the lyrics and costumes of the song are appropriate, the inappropriate choreography composed by Sekhar Master didn’t go well with moviegoers. The dance moves are lewd and indecent as we can see Balakrishna indulging in an ass-slapping act in the video promo of this song. Many have been criticising that the song didn’t suit Balakrishna’s age and stature.
Moreover, Balakrishna is a responsible public representative as an MLA for Hindupur constituency. What made the director plan an item song with such vulgar moves and how did Balakrishna didn’t object has surprised many. There is no wrong in trying to cater the masses, but there should be some limits to item songs and also seasoned actors should keep in mind their age and public stature.
While there is nothing much to rave about Thaman’s routine tune and ordinary lyrics penned by Kasarla Shyam, the distasteful choreography has received massive condemnation from all quarters. Critics from other languages are also taking potshots at the choreographer for coming up with such objectionable moves.
Director Bobby should have taken more care while accepting such steps. In his last film Waltair Veerayya, Chiranjeevi also shook a leg with Urvashi Rautela for a mass song. But, Chiru handled it with his grace and class. That’s missing this time.
Daaku Maharaj is slated for release on January 12th worldwide.
