Story:
Chandu (Harsh Roshan), a hardworking student juggling his studies and part-time jobs in Vizag, falls in love with Jabili (Sridevi), an intermediate second-year student. However, their innocent love story takes a tragic turn when Jabili’s uncle, Mangapathi (Shivaji), a man obsessed with family honor, discovers their relationship.
In a shocking twist, Mangapathi, along with Jabili’s family and the police, storms into Chandu’s house while Jabili is present and gets him arrested. The situation worsens when Chandu is slapped with multiple charges, including a serious POCSO case, as Jabili is under 18. With the legal system stacked against him, Chandu finds himself fighting for his future.
In this crisis situation, Teja (Priyadarshi), a hitherto unexperienced lawyer, comes to stand in for Chandu. On his way through the intricacies of the court system, he must contend with a system that appears to be intent upon defeating his client.
Can Teja reverse the fortunes of Chandu? Will justice be served, or will social conventions determine the outcome? The compelling legal thriller unfolds on the big screen, promising to be an emotional and thought-provoking movie experience.
Review:
Priyadarshi once more showcases his versatility with a forceful performance as an attorney. His acting is filled with conviction, and each scene in which he features has impact.
Harsh Roshan, who has already captured hearts as a kid artiste, plays Chandu with a grown-up and emotionally charged performance. Debutante Sridevi enters the industry with a confident act, winning with her screen presence and natural ability.
Sai Kumar, though underutilized on screen, makes an impact. Shivaji, though, is the true showstopper, revamping his profession with a foreboding and dark performance, adding a new level to his villainous character.
Rohini, Subhalekha Sudhakar, and the supporting cast bring vitality to the cast, infusing life to the characters and depth. Their performances as a whole up the emotional quotient of the film, making it a riveting watch.
Director Ram Jagadeesh delivers an engaging courtroom drama infused with deep emotions and strong family sentiments. The film seamlessly blends an intense legal battle with an underlying emotional core, ensuring a gripping narrative. The teenage romance is portrayed naturally, adding a refreshing dimension to the story. However, the true highlight is Shivaji’s performance—his commanding screen presence and impeccable timing elevate the film’s impact significantly.
While the narrative picks up pace after the initial half, some may find the earlier segments on teen romance a bit redundant. The first half is slow to get into things, but the second part more than compensates for it in storytelling and emotional depth.
Despite its powerful message, there are a few scenes in the second half that are slightly too long. A more effective screenplay would have made the pacing tighter, and the character journey of Mangapathi could have been better wrapped up. While the court hearings are engaging, they take a very conventional path.
Vijay Bulganin’s soulful tracks add emotional strength to the movie, complementing the plot immaculately. The cinematography is equally striking, taking its cue from beautiful natural surroundings. The editing comes across crisp, maintaining the grip of the film on the viewers. With first-rate production standards by Prashanthi Tipirneni, the film is a properly made drama in which story narration and acting don’t compromise one another.
Court – State Vs. A Nobody delivers a compelling narrative while shedding light on an important message related to POCSO. Though some scenes may feel familiar, the film captivates with its intense courtroom sequences and emotionally charged moments. The standout performances of Shivaji and Priyadarshi elevate the story, adding depth and realism. Overall, Court – State Vs. A Nobody keeps the audience engaged and leaves a lasting impact.
