Cornered Jagan moves closer to INDIA bloc

Though the YSR Congress party was not a part of the NDA from 2019 to 2024, the then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had to toe the line of the central government on various issues due to several reasons. Jagan extended complete support to the BJP in all aspects and made sure that he was in the good books of Modi and Shah. But the scenario has now completely changed as the political dynamics are not the same anymore. This is because of the BJP’s pre-poll alliance with the TDP and Janasena parties in the state.

After facing a huge setback in the recent assembly elections and with TDP being an ally of the NDA at the centre, Jagan Mohan Reddy finds himself alienated because he can no longer maintain cordial ties with the BJP which retained power again. Hence, he has got only one alternative. That is to join hands with the INDIA bloc led by Congress and many other parties. Jagan feels that this is only way he can stay relevant in national politics without power.

The pendulum seems to be slowly shifting because Jagan is inching closer to the INDIA bloc day by day. If we look at the recent developments, there is a clear message from YSRCP that it will no longer support the Bharatiya Janata Party on crucial issues and if possible, it will incline towards the coalition bloc.

Yesterday, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s MPs expressed dissent on the ammendments proposed to the contentious Waqf bill tabled in the parliament by the NDA. Even in Rajyasabha, YSRCP representatives are going to oppose the bill. This has become a talking point in political circles because it clearly hints that Jagan is keen on extending support to the INDIA bloc.

Last month, when Jagan staged a protest in Delhi against law and order issues in Andhra Pradesh, he garnered support from INDIA bloc parties. Jagan gleefully embraced national leaders like Akhilesh Yadav and requested all other support his protest.

From the past few days, there have been numerous speculations that it won’t be of much surprise if Jagan and his party becomes a part of the bloc and fight against the BJP government at the centre.

Though it is not yet known what is in Jagan’s mind, one thing is very clear that he wants to keep distance with the BJP and step closer towards the bloc.
