Construction work of capital Amaravati To Begin on March 15

The construction work of Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, will continue at a fast pace from March 15. The tender process was delayed due to the election code being in force due to the recent MLC elections.

Although the tenders related to the construction work in Amaravati were called earlier, the finalization process was delayed due to the implementation of the MLC election code. However, with the latest approval from the Election Commission, the government will finalize the tenders for the remaining works.

The construction work of Amaravati will be accelerated from the first week of April with 30,000 workers. Officials said that the jungle clearance and land consolidation work have already been completed. In the first phase, the government aims to complete infrastructure works such as roads, water supply, drainage system and electricity.

The government has already called tenders for construction works worth Rs 42,000 crores. These tenders include housing projects, government buildings, road expansion, infrastructure development, etc. Tenders will soon be invited for 11 more major works.

The construction of the iconic NRT building, which was started during the Telugu Desam Party regime between 2014-19, was stopped after the YSRCP came to power in 2019. The government has come forward to revive the construction again under the new regime. The government aims to develop Amaravati with state-of-the-art infrastructure in an effort to make Amaravati a world-class capital.

Plans are being prepared to build a rainwater drainage system, high-speed roads, and international-standard government buildings. Officials revealed that more key decisions are likely to be taken soon. While the work currently underway in Amaravati is the first phase, the government is preparing to undertake more projects in the future.

These include high-tech parks, IT hubs, and the development of an international airport. The central and state governments will jointly release funds for the development of Amaravati. Moreover, foreign investors are also showing interest in setting up their projects here. With the coalition government coming to power, steps are being taken to construct the NRT Icon building.

For this, the AP government has appointed a construction committee under the leadership of Minister Kondapalli Srinivas. The order states that the AP Non-Resident Telugu Society CEO member will be the convener, one technical member from Turner Project Management India Private Limited, and five members will be in this committee.
