Congress not sincere in providing 42 per cent BC reservations, says state BJP chief Rao

Telangana state BJP President N Ramchander Rao strongly condemned the Congress party’s attempts to blame the BJP and the central government for its failure to implement 42 per cent BC reservations in the state. He alleged that the Congress leaders who did nothing for the BC community were now raising the reservation issue again to cover up their own government’s failure.

He said the proposed public meeting of Congress party in Kamareddy on the issue of BC reservation is another attempt to betray this community. The Congress party did nothing for BCs and they deceived people of Telangana when they declared “ 42 per cent B C reservations in the name of Kamareddy declaration” last year.  He alleged 42 per cent BC reservations is another hollow promise of the Congress party.

Launching a scathing attack on Congress party and its state government,  Rao denied allegations of Congress party leaders that BJP and central government have been obstructing BC reservations. But the fact is that BJP gave its full support when the BC reservation bill was moved in the assembly, he clarified.

If the Congress government was sincere in providing 42 per cent reservations to BC communities, he asserted that it should have followed due legal process. He recalled that BJP had already advised a number of times to the Congress government to amend section 285 of Panchayatraj Act of 2018 before sending the bill to the state governor.

The BJP has never hindered the legal process, he said, adding that the Supreme Court has also clearly ruled that the 50 per cent cap on reservations should not be exceeded. Rao said after a delay of 22 months, the Congress government finally realized its mistake and considered the advice and suggestions given by the BJP and recently brought a bill for the second time to amend Section 285 during the Assembly session.

The state BJP chief asked why this amendment was not made earlier? Why the long delay? The Congress party has many legal experts like Kapil Sibal. Why were they not consulted for the legal process?, he asked. He lamented that it was outrageous that the Congress party was failing in its responsibilities  and then blaming the BJP for political gain.

The party is deceiving the people of Telangana and the BC community with false promises and fraudulent actions, Rao alleged and said the Congress party should remember that until it implements 42 per cent BC reservations through a scientific method, as promised in the Kamareddy BC Declaration, it has no moral right to speak about the BCs.
