In a significant development in Andhra Pradesh politics, Congress leaders are advocating for enhanced security measures for Y.S. Sharmila, the president of the state Congress party. They have presented a formal petition to DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, requesting an upgrade to her current security detail from 2+2 gunmen to 4+4. This request has taken on added importance in light of the current political climate in the state.
Adding to the political tension, the Y.S. family’s ongoing property dispute has become a focal point of controversy. Y.S. Sharmila has accused her brother, Y.S. Jagan, of disregarding their father Y.S.R. ‘s wishes regarding the equitable division of family assets. Sharmila argues that the distribution should adhere to a previously established Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). However, YSRCP leaders have countered her claims, stating that Jagan, motivated by familial love, has willingly agreed to share his self-earned assets with his sister. They also allege that Sharmila is attempting to manipulate the share transfer to jeopardize Jagan’s bail.
In response to these tensions, Jagan has filed a petition with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), contesting the proposed asset transfer as outlined in the MoU.
Since the filing of the NCLT petition, the political landscape has evolved into a clear divide between YSRCP and Sharmila. While Sharmila has been vocal in her criticisms of Jagan, the YSRCP consistently refutes her allegations. Recently, Y.S. Vijayamma, their mother, addressed YSR supporters in a letter, expressing her hope that the siblings would resolve their differences and urging them to refrain from speculation on social media. In her letter, Vijayamma highlighted Sharmila’s perceived unfair treatment, which has drawn criticism from within YSRCP. Party leaders are accusing her of favoring Sharmila, suggesting that such support could further complicate Jagan’s situation.
As these political dynamics unfold, all eyes are on the Y.S. family and the implications of their disputes for Andhra Pradesh politics.
