Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has formally requested the central government to provide immediate financial assistance for the extensive damage caused by recent heavy rains and floods in the state. During a meeting with a central team of officials today (Friday) at the Secretariat, CM Revanth presented estimates indicating a loss of ₹10,320 crore, with additional details still pending.
In his appeal, CM Revanth emphasized the urgent need for funds to be released without any conditions. He highlighted that the state has been unable to access the available ₹1,350 crore due to stringent regulations and requested the central team to ease these conditions.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of constructing a retaining wall along the Munneru stream in Khammam to prevent future flooding, describing it as a permanent solution. He assured that the state is prepared to contribute its share of the funding for this project.
CM Revanth also addressed the need to provide housing in safer locations for residents of low-lying areas, such as Rakasitanda and Satyanarayana Tanda, and sought central support for these housing initiatives. He advocated for a shift in focus from post-disaster relief to preventive measures and mentioned plans to use state police battalions similarly to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for future emergencies.
Additionally, CM Revanth requested the central government to deploy an expert team to study the rare incident in Medaram forest, where nearly 50,000 acres of trees were uprooted.
The meeting included Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Khammam MP Raghurama Reddy, CM’s advisor Ven Narendra Reddy, and Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, among other officials.
