Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that Osmania University should be developed at the level of an Oxford University to compete in the world, and the government has no objection to spending Rs. 1,000 crore for this. He inaugurated the hostel buildings built at Rs. 90 crore in OU. They were named Dundubhi and Bima hostels.
Laying the foundation stone of a new digital library and reading room, the Chief Minister expressed his regret that the Osmania University, which used to be a place of art, has now become devoid of art. He said that the word Osmania University is an alternative word for Telangana. He said that Osmania University and Telangana are like undivided twins.
He recalled that former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao, Chenna Reddy and Jaipal Reddy came from Osmania University. He said that if there is any problem in Telangana, the movement will be led by Osmania University.
“Tell me what I can do to improve educational standards. Students, express your protest to those who have troubled you. If you block those who come to solve your problems, you should think about how development will happen”, he said.
“Let’s develop OU at the level of an Oxford University so that it can compete in the world. The government has no objection to spending Rs. 1,000 crore for you,” the Chief Minister added. He recalled that it was Osmania University that taught struggle along with education, and that Yadav died for the achievement of Telangana state.
He lamented that the previous rulers tried to weaken OU through conspiracy. CM Revanth Reddy warned that if the BRS government comes to power again, they will not let Osmania University survive and will create layouts and plots in OU.
Revanth Reddy said that Osmania University has a great history of producing great people like IPS and IAS. The CM said that it was the Congress government that appointed a Dalit as the VC of OU in a hundred years.
He said that the country’s greatest asset is its youth, and he hoped that Osmania University would become a platform for research as well as education. He expressed his concern that schools and colleges were being affected by marijuana and that the flow of intoxicants was spreading in the society.
