Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has accused the previous government of destroying the prestigious AP Fibernet for political purposes. He has instructed officials to take immediate steps to revive AP Fibernet and directed them to implement new policies to increase connections as they are trying to maintain the organization by providing Rs 200 crores a year.
Chief Minister Chandrababu held a high-level review with officials on the AP Fibernet project. He accused the previous government of misusing funds by appointing thousands of party workers in the organization. He was furious that connections had reduced by half due to its negligence.
He discussed at length the challenges ahead, financial problems, steps to be taken, and new policy decisions to restore the organization. He expressed anger that the YSRCP had used a system that should be useful to the people, students, and government departments for political purposes and damaged the goal.
CM Chandrababu blamed the previous government’s policies for the drop in connections from 8.70 lakh to 4.50 lakh by 2019. He reminded that during the Telugu Desam government, the organization was run brilliantly with just 130 employees and provided more than 8.70 lakh connections.
He flagged that the previous government, which created unnecessary posts for YSRC workers, had increased the number of employees from 130 to 1,350 and looted them. He lamented that the previous government was involved in a new type of corruption in which hundreds and thousands of people were appointed in government institutions and made to work for the party.
He instructed the officials to conduct an inquiry into the appointments of that time, identify the illegals and bring all the details to light. He suggested that the mistakes of that time should be rectified and the AP Fibernet should be revamped in accordance with future needs.
The CM revealed that the government is planning to make new set-top boxes available. He said that 14,770 CCTV cameras have been installed across the state under the CCTV surveillance project.
From June 2024 to June 2025, funds of Rs 192.5 crore have been released under CAPEX and Rs 66.76 crore under OPEX, while central funds of Rs 67.14 crore are to be received as part of Bharat Net Phase 2. The Chief Minister approved the installation of GPU servers, 38 AI-ML based smart analytics and an additional 300 cameras.
