Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced that Potti Sriramulu Telugu University will soon be established in AP. He paid tribute to Potti Sriramulu at a program organized at Tummalapalle Kalakshetra in Vijayawada on the occasion of his 72nd death anniversary.
He also said that Potti Sriramulu’s 125th birth anniversary celebrations will be held grandly from March 16, 2025. The village where Potti Sriramulu was born will be developed and his house will be made a memorial. He also announced that a memorial forest will be established in the capital Amaravati.
”Potti Sriramulu University was established by NTR. I named Nellore district as Potti Sriramulu district. We developed the land where he walked in every way. The government that came after him also neglected those works. They also tried to change the name of Potti Sriramulu University. After the formation of the New Andhra state, we decided to make Potti Sriramulu’s self-sacrifice day a grand one,” he reminded.
Chandrababu said that the great struggle waged by Potti Sriramulu for a separate state for the Telugu people from Madras is unforgettable. He said that we all call ourselves Telugus because of Potti Sriramulu’s sacrifice. He praised Potti Sriramulu as a person who thought for the Telugu nation and achieved it through sacrifice.
CM Chandrababu said that he achieved Andhra Pradesh by fasting for 58 days. “Our Telugu nation has very strange circumstances. The Telugu nation has been divided and united many times. We have faced many difficulties. After 50 years of struggle and the sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu’s life, a linguistic state came”, he added.
The Chief Minister recalled that Alluri Seetharama Raju united the tribals and fought. He was killed that day because he was in trouble. In 1913, he said that the Andhra Mahasabha was formed to give the Telugu nation a state. The Tamils used to say that the British would give independence before it was given. Finally, that came true soon after independence.
Chandrababu Naidu hailed that ourTelugu people had made many movements for our rights. He deplored that development and moving to a new capital became a routine for our Telugu people. Finally, a state came into being for our Telugu people because of Potti Sriramulu. During the fast, he said that Nehru sent a telegram to call off the fast, but he did not back down.
