Akkineni Naga Chaitanya’s rural entertainer ‘Thandel’ was initially supposed to hit the screens in December this year. As Ram Charan’s long delayed political thriller’Game Changer’ targeted Christmas release till recently, the makers of Thandel felt that it would be ideal to release their film for Summer as Sankranti is likely to crowded with multiple films.
Surprisingly, the makers of Thandel suddenly sent feelers to media circles and buyers last week that they are aiming for Sankranti release. This might be because Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambhara got postponed and also due to rumours that Venkatesh’s 76th film with Anil Ravipudi might be pushed ahead by Dil Raju to avoid clash with Game Changer.
Though the shooting formalities are not yet completed, Thandel team appeared to be very determined to release the film for Sankranti despite heavy competition because of the strong pre-release buzz on the film. But, the digital partner for Thandel turned out be a big hurdle because the streaming rights of Balakrishna’s Sankranti film also were also with the same company and Thandel cannot release in the same week along with NBK109.
As Summer is turning to be very busy with biggies like Vishwambhara, Raja Saab already slated for release during the same time, Thandel team is looking at Republic day holiday as a potential release date. If they sort out the issue with Netflix, the film might arrive during Sankranti. If not, it will hit the screens for Republic day. As of now, the uncertainty over the release date continues.
Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, Thandel is inspired by real life incidents that transpired off Gujarat coast when a bunch of Indian fishermen were apprehended by Pakistani coast guard. Geetha Arts banner is bankrolling the film. Sai Pallavi is the female lead.
