Chaos At GHMC council Meet, BRS corporators Arrested, Budget Approved without Debate

Uproar and chaos prevailed at GHMC Council Meeting on Thursday, under the chairmanship of Mayor Gadwala Vijayalaxmi.  When the mayor said that the budget would be presented first, BRS and BJP corporators objected and insisted for a debate on public issues.

The BRS and BJP corporators protested the council meeting in an innovative way, exposing the shortcomings of the government. They alleged that development has stagnated under the Congress rule. The BJP corporators protested by begging and demanded that funds be sanctioned to corporators division-wise. They protested against the mayor.

Amid protests from BRS and BJP members, Mayor Gadwala Vijaya Lakshmi presented a budget of Rs 8,480 crore for the financial year 2025-26. It was approved without any discussion. With this, the members were astonished at the mayor’s behavior and became furious.

As soon as the meeting began, during the discussion on the budget, BRS corporators protested against the non-implementation of 6 guarantees and surrendered mayor’s  podium. On this occasion, a scuffle broke out between Congress and BRS corporators . Congress members tore down the placards displayed by BRS corporators.

Mayor Vijaya Lakshmi called marshals into the council hall after a scuffle between Congress and BRS corporators. The meeting was adjourned for five minutes due to chaos among the members. Even after the meeting resumed, the BRS members continued to protest, so they were suspended. The BRS and Congress corporators pushed each other and abused each other.

BRS members threw placards at the mayor’s podium. Immediately, the marshals reached there and arrested the BRS corporators and took them to the police station.

Party working president KTR was furious that the arrest of BRS corporators for exposing the Congress government’s attitude of not caring about Hyderabad city in the GHMC governing council meeting was a bad move.

He said that if a question was asked on behalf of one crore city residents that funds were not being given to Hyderabad city after the Congress government came to power, would they be thrown out?

Former minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao condemned the illegal arrests of GHMC BRS corporators and lashed out at the Congress government, asking, “Will they make arrests if they ask for funds for the development of Hyderabad city?”
