Chandrababu’s Tribute to Clean India’s Unsung Heroes

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu declared that “Jai Swachh Sevak” should become a unifying slogan for all citizens, emphasizing that sanitation workers who uphold cleanliness are the true patriots of the nation. Highlighting the state’s commitment, he shared that Andhra Pradesh is driving the Swachh Andhra program forward with a strong sense of purpose and mass participation.

Praising the dedication of sanitation workers, the CM likened their efforts in eliminating unsanitary conditions to the bravery displayed by soldiers during Operation Sindhoor. He urged everyone to contribute towards maintaining clean hospitals and government offices, and stressed the importance of passing on the value of cleanliness to future generations.

Taking aim at the previous administration, he condemned their failure to effectively utilize the Swachh Bharat funds. His frustration was evident as he pointed out the 85 lakh metric tons of garbage left behind despite the imposition of a garbage tax.

The CM also drew attention to the deteriorating cleanliness at Tirumala, noting that his government not only removed the accumulated garbage but also scrapped the garbage tax altogether. Acknowledging the successful cleanup, he congratulated Minister Narayana and the municipal staff for their commendable work in clearing legacy waste.

Setting a clear goal, he revealed that Andhra Pradesh aims to become a zero-waste state by January 1. To support this mission, 100 Clean Chariots will soon be launched across the state.

In his address, CM Chandrababu Naidu called for greater respect towards those who maintain public cleanliness and encouraged every citizen to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings — including offices and roads — clean. He reiterated that a clean Andhra is essential for realizing the dream of Swarnandhra.

Sharing insights from global best practices, he highlighted how the Singapore cleanliness model was studied and successfully implemented in the joint capital, Hyderabad. The government has since adopted a night cleaning policy to further strengthen sanitation efforts.

In addition, he mentioned the innovative Green Passport program, through which students are being encouraged to develop the habit of planting trees — reinforcing the values of environmental responsibility from a young age.

However, he noted with concern that while the use-and-throw policy continues to be followed, the use-recover-reuse policy has not yet been implemented.

Municipal Administration Minister Dr. Narayana called for inclusive public participation in achieving the goals of Swachh Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out that the Chief Minister personally joins the SwarnaAndhra Swachh Andhra program every third Saturday of the month, actively raising awareness among the public.

Both leaders were present at the state-level Swachh Andhra Awards ceremony held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram. Recalling the massive cleanup task assigned to him, the Minister said the CM had instructed the removal of 85 lakh tons of garbage within a year of the coalition government taking charge. Impressively, the target was achieved 15 days ahead of the municipal department’s own deadline.

Looking ahead, they also confirmed plans to remove an additional 25 lakh tons of legacy waste by the end of December, with the aim of making Andhra Pradesh entirely garbage-free.
