Strongly warning officials who are working for the interests of a political party or an individual, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu said that government officials should work responsibly keeping in view of public interest only. He said that officials who work for the interests of parties are dangerous to democracy.
Expressing concern over uncertainty prevailing in distribution of pensions in the state during the election period, Chandrababu warned that the government will be held responsible if any person dies while taking pension. He demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to be given to the families of those who died after coming for pension and to register a case under government murders.
Chandrababu was furious that a situation of going to the governor on the pension issue was created in the state. Stating that last month they were turned around the secretariats and now they are asked to go around banks, he wondered how can they go for pension in the scorching heat of the sun if they deposit cash in the banks?
Is it an excuse to go around the banks in the middle of heatwaves saying that they are not getting money for the need?, he asked. He demanded that the government should mobilise alternative staff for pension distribution at doorstep and it is not appropriate to bother the elderly with lame excuses.
Accusing that the officials are searching for excuses, the former chief minister recalled that the officials who are now stating that they would deposit the pension cash in the bank accounts had previously said that they did not have the bank account details of the pensioners.
He asked how the details that were not there last month have come now? Stating that there are about 65 lakh pensioners and 48 lakh accounts are available, the officials said that it is not appropriate to ask beneficiaries who have Aadhaar link to deposit in banks. Chandrababu expressed his grief that it is unfortunate that officials are also becoming part of one or other conspiracies of the ruling party.
