Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has proposed to implement SC classification taking districts as a unit, which was approved by the party’s highest decision making body Politburo in its meeting on Thursday.
Party sources said that even before the assembly elections, TDP took the same decision internally in a meeting of SC leaders of their party. The matter came up for discussion in the Politburo meeting in the wake of the Supreme Court giving its seal of approval to the classification a few days ago.
It was also decided to implement SC reservation on the basis of population of sub-castes in each district, which would avoid problems for all. This will ensure proportionate reservation to all sub-castes.
Chandrababu said that since there is a severe shortage of funds for the development of roads in the state, the matter of developing the state roads also on the model of national highways is being considered. The tendered company builds the national highway with its investment and then recovers its cost through toll fees.
The Chief Minister said that he is thinking of constructing state roads in a similar manner. The state president of the party Palla Srinivasa Rao expressed doubt that there will be objections from the people to this proposal.
“We do not collect toll for two wheelers, autos, tractors etc. We want to charge only for cars, lorries and buses. If the roads are good, big vehicles will benefit. They will not hesitate to pay the toll fee”’ replied the Chief Minister. He said that he wants to implement this policy only for very big roads. Chandrababu Naidu also proposed handing over management of irrigation canals under the projects to private companies.
Indicating that filling up of nominated posts will start soon, the Chief Minister said that priority will be given to those who have lost their seats and those who have sacrificed their seats to allies. ”We have worked out a system for finalizing the assembly candidates. No one’s recommendations were taken. Now we are adopting the same for filling nominated posts”, he said.
TDP chief said that no recommendations from anyone will be encouraged for nominated posts. “We will bring information about who has performed well in the elections and analyze them and replace them based on various equations,” he added. He said that the first list of nominated posts will be released in a few days.
