Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu warned that no leniency will be shown if liquor is sold at prices exceeding the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) by even one rupee. He recommended imposing a fine of ₹5 lakh on shops that violate MRP and sell liquor in belt shops. He clarified that if the same violations continue, their licenses will be revoked. He reviewed the situation with officials from the mines and excise departments at the secretariat on Monday, discussing the availability and supply of sand and liquor prices.
“Under no circumstances should belt shops be permitted. Take strict action if liquor shop owners promote belt shops or bring in liquor from other areas. Every shop must have CCTV cameras and boards displaying price details. Establish a toll-free number for complaints. Conduct surprise inspections to curb illegal activities,” Naidu emphasized.
Action to Be Taken Against Officials First
Naidu made it clear that if mistakes occur regarding sand availability, actions will be taken against the officials first, holding them responsible for any violations. “Increase the availability of sand. Make arrangements for easy access to reach the sites. No truckloads of sand should be allowed to go to neighboring states. The government has a clear policy regarding sand and liquor. It must be implemented properly at the grassroots level. No one should be spared who exploits the public’s pockets,” he advised. He also mentioned that a central monitoring system would be established soon to oversee these matters.
