Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday declared that he and his family members will adopt several underprivileged families as part of the state’s flagship poverty alleviation initiative, ‘Zero Poverty – P4’.
Reviewing the P4 program at the state Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the campaign is evolving into a people’s movement. He reiterated that empowering poor families is the primary goal of the coalition government.
Chandrababu directed district collectors to actively coordinate with corporate firms to facilitate their participation in the initiative. He also called on collectors to treat villages as functional units and encourage Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and industrialists from those areas to adopt local underprivileged families.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that 15 lakh ‘Bangaru Kutumbalu’ (Golden Families) are adopted by mentors before August 15. So far, 5.74 lakh families have been adopted, and 57,503 mentors have registered under the scheme. Officials informed the Chief Minister that an additional two lakh mentors are needed to meet the target.
Palnadu district has recorded the highest number of family adoptions, while Visakhapatnam ranks at the bottom. Officials added that real-time updates are being sent to adopted families via automated messages.
