When the YSR Congress was in power in Andhra Pradesh, leaders of coalition parties were loudly campaigning against illegal sand and liquor operations, promising electorates that they would wipe out the respective practices if they were voted into power. But today, as head honchos of their parties, several of them are apparently the same perpetrators that they spoke out against during election time. Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister, has been speaking against this hypocrisy by claiming that the promises in the campaign are different from the present-day actions.
The new policies recently implemented by the coalition government in regulating liquor and sand operations are still a long way from effective enforcement. The ruling party leaders have started undermining these efforts, forcing Naidu to talk to them. He has repeatedly warned the leaders that the situation is pretty grave.
Naidu, in one of his recent addresses asked his party leaders sternly not to go about interfering in the affairs related to sand, besides urging citizens to protest against such illegal activities of sand. He said liquor has to be sold strictly at the MRP rates and reiterated that his government will not allow any kind of corruption to surface with sand as well as with liquor. Naidu clearly said that not even a single rupee of corruption will be accepted and crossing the line will have serious consequences. It is this commitment to accountability that shows how committed Naidu is to integrity in governance.
