Elections are crucial for the government also. The government should be on alert and maintenance of law and order is its prime responsibility. But Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is not seen in public after the end of period for poll campaign, on May 11. He was seen only briefly hours before leaving on a foreign tour with family at the I-PAC office.
As a party chief and also Chief Minister not a single comment from him was heard on polling trends, appeal to people against poll violence or other related governance matters. He was silent even during post-poll violence. Did not try to review the situation with concerned officers.
On the other hand, as leader of opposition N Chandrababu Naidu is seen very active on issues of governance. Most of the initiatives from the Election Commission of India (ECI) took place after his letters only. This makes one surprised as if he is already acting like a Chief Minister- designate!
During the period of post- poll violence, CM Jagan simply left the country without bothering people. But, Chandrababu Naidu revealed his leadership skills by writing letters to the ECI, along with the Governor.
It made the ECI respond immediately, summoned Chief Secretary and DGP and took severe action against erred officials, besides formation of SIT.
At least two of his letters make the Governor act positively. On the issue of the government attempting to pay bills for its own contractors ignoring transfer of money to welfare schemes, Chandrababu’s letter played a decisive role.
Likewise, the government attempt on upgradation of e-Office was also stalled with Chandrababu’s letters to ECI and Governor. Again, his letter motivated ECI to order for keeping central forces in the state even after counting of votes for a period of 15 days, expressing apprehensions that violence may continue.
While as opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu is able to influence the administration in his own way, leave alone Chief Minister Jagan, even none of the ministers are seen in responding to the needs of the house on behalf of the government. It is giving suspicion that they already vacated their offices?
On the other hand, YCP leaders are worried that three of their MLAs in violence -hit areas of Tadipatri, Macherla and Chandragiri are under house arrest.
