The Andhra Pradesh coalition government has ramped up its actions against social media activists associated with the previous YSRCP-led administration. One of the most high-profile arrests is that of Varra Ravinder Reddy, a former personal assistant to YS Bharathi and an influential social media figure. Ravinder’s arrest follows controversy over his posts targeting prominent figures like YS Sharmila and Vijayamma, sparking widespread political discourse.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in defense of Ravinder, claimed that his social media account was compromised and that opposition leaders manipulated it to post misleading content. However, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu dismissed these claims during a recent Assembly session. Naidu recounted the offensive nature of Ravinder’s posts about Sharmila, stating that they were so inappropriate they could not be shared in the Assembly.
Naidu further questioned why Jagan Mohan Reddy continues to support an individual involved in such actions. He also reminded the Assembly of Sharmila’s earlier accusations against Ravinder and highlighted her call for the arrest of YS Avinash Reddy, who was allegedly linked to similar online activities.
The arrest of Ravinder has ignited intense political debates, deepening the divide between the ruling and opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh. The situation continues to fuel tensions, with both sides presenting contrasting narratives, making it a significant political issue in the state.
