For the first time, TDP chief and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has witnessed large-scale resentment from the party leaders against indiscriminate induction of YCP leaders into the party, particularly those who were known for their abusive and violent behaviour towards TDP during previous government period.
During a teleconference with the party leaders, he has received strong objections from almost all in the party against the move of the YCP MLC Pothula Sunitha, who recently resigned as MLC and reportedly plans to return to TDP.
It may be recalled that she was first encouraged by Chandrababu Naidu by making her as Chirala incharge, giving her MLA seat and later getting elected as MLC. She was also made Telugu Mahila president.
But, as Chirala assembly seat was given to Karanam Balaramakrishna Murhty in 2019, soon after TDP defeat in the elections she joined YCP. YCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy used her to abuse TDP leadership. As she abused Chandrababu Naidu, his wife and Nara Lokesh repeatedly, she was rewarded MLC seat for the second time and also made as YCP state women’s wing president.
But interestingly, MLC Varudu Kalyani was appointed as the state president of YCP women’s wing on August 23 and on the next day Pothula Sunitha announced her resignation from the party. She also resigned as MLC. Now, speculations are going on that she is trying to join TDP.
However, realising discontent against her within TDP leadership, Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly assured them that she will not be admitted into the party.
Meanwhile, Palasa TDP MLA Gauthu Sirisha has earlier openly opposed the speculation of admitting Pothula Sunitha into TDP. She appealed to party chief Chandrababu Naidu not to take her into the party at all.
“I sincerely appeal to the elders of the TDP party. Please do not accept such chameleon-like leaders into our party. If we accept such people who come for power, it will be an insult to those who honestly fought for our party when there was no power”, she asserted.
