Chandrababu Asked officials To prevent smuggling of sand To Neighboring states

As Andhra Pradesh is facing sand shortage due to implementation of free sand policy, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has issued instructions to the officials asking them to prevent smuggling of sand to neighboring states.

He recalled that the government has canceled synergy on sand to increase the availability of sand in the state. Taking advantage of availability of sand at lower prices in the state, he said he has received information that it is being moved from the state through Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore routes.

He ordered to set up check posts on these routes and establish strict supervision. He warned that strict action will be taken if the rules of the free sand policy are violated. He suggested that a new system should be introduced to complain about illegal sand mining.

Chandrababu said that till now sand was allowed to be carried free of charge on the bullock carts, but recently allowed to transport sand on tractors for their own needs within the limits of the gram panchayats. Those who carry sand on tractors should first register their details in the village and ward secretariats, he added.

Also, CM Chandrababu directed the officials to think about handing over the mining and loading of sand reaches to the private sector. Presently AP is facing shortage of sand in the absence of new sand mining and the available sand is being supplied in the reaches.

Moreover, due to recent rains and flood water pouring from above, the sand mining in the rivers is getting hampered. Due to the shortage of sand, construction work has slowed down. As a result, construction works or workers are suffering in villages.

Mines Director Mukesh Kumar Meena said that with the intention of not having a shortage of sand in the state, the government has made it easy for the tractors to carry sand to be used for local needs. He made it clear  that house construction should not stop due to non-availability of sand.
