Champions Trophy: India Defeats Pakistan, Secures Semi-Final Berth

Dubai: Team India extended its dominance over Pakistan in ICC major events with a commanding six-wicket victory in the Champions Trophy Group A league match. Star batter Virat Kohli’s unbeaten century (100*) guided India to a comfortable win, virtually securing a spot in the semi-finals.

Pakistan, opting to bat first after winning the toss, struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack and was bowled out for 241 in 49.4 overs. In response, India successfully chased the 242-run target in 42.3 overs, finishing at 244/4.

Kohli played a pivotal role in the run chase, scoring 100 runs off 111 deliveries, including seven boundaries. He reached his century with the winning shot, marking his 51st ODI hundred and fourth against Pakistan.

Earlier, skipper Rohit Sharma contributed 20 runs off 15 balls, hitting three fours and a six. Opener Shubman Gill added 46, while Shreyas Iyer scored a crucial 56. Hardik Pandya managed just 8 runs before Kohli, along with Axar Patel (3*), ensured India’s victory. Among Pakistan’s bowlers, Shaheen Afridi picked up two wickets, while Abrar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah claimed one each.

This win marks India’s second consecutive victory in the group stage, placing them at the top of Group A. Pakistan, having suffered back-to-back defeats, faces an uphill battle to qualify for the semi-finals. New Zealand and Bangladesh occupy the second and third spots, respectively. India will play its final league match against New Zealand on March 2.
