There has been a cut of about one lakh tonnes between the amount of urea that came from the Centre to the state of Andhra Pradesh from April to the end of August last year in Kharif and the amount that has come so far this year.
If we look at the amount of urea from April to the end of August this year, the Centre has cut urea by 25 percent. In addition, experts say that some circumstances encountered in this Kharif have increased demand, which has led to an increase in shortage.
However, the state TDP coalition government is not daring to question this harsh reality. The campaign put forward by the coalition government that they have imported too much urea using their leverage from the Centre, that it is available more than required, and that some people are diverting the fertilizer is not true, as it is understood by looking at the facts of how much fertilizer has come from companies last year and this year.
Meanwhile, while the central BJP government wanted to reduce the subsidy burden by 10 percent across the country this year, it has cut urea for our state by more than that target. It is noteworthy that its ‘double engine government’ claims the injustice done to the farmers, the loss, and the agachas of those who are struggling for urea as its glory.
While 6,32,138 tons of urea were sold in 2024-Kharif, the center has reduced the allocation to 6,22,000 tons for the 2025-Kharif season. However, it has cut the allocated amount of urea instead of supplying it as per the monthly requirements as per the pre-planned plan.
From April to August last year, 4,69,297 tons were allocated company-wise and supplied to the state. This year, only 3,72,246 tons of urea reached the state from the center during the same period. This year, there has been a decrease of 97,057 tons compared to last year.
During the peak season and times of high demand, there has been a huge cut in supply from the center, and some areas have not received any at all, which has created a worrying situation for farmers as they are unable to get additional urea. This has led to a shortage of urea. Farmers are facing a lot of hardship.
