Centre Rejects ₹8 Lakh Crore Debt Claim on Telangana, KTR Calls Allegations Baseless

Hyderabad: The Central Government has firmly rejected Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s claim that the Telangana government incurred ₹8 lakh crore in debt, said BRS Working President and former minister KT Rama Rao (KTR). He stated that the actual debt stands at ₹3.5 lakh crore, a figure officially acknowledged by the Centre, contrary to opposition parties’ exaggerated allegations.

Addressing the issue, KTR called the accusations by Revanth Reddy and his associates “completely false” and said Parliament has today disproved these claims. He criticized the opposition for spreading misinformation during the last elections to tarnish the image of the BRS government and questioned their credibility.

KTR clarified that as of March 31, 2024, Telangana’s debt was ₹3,50,520.39 crore. He emphasized that the BRS government avoided unnecessary borrowing and strategically utilized loans for welfare schemes and asset creation for future generations.

He highlighted major initiatives funded through these loans, including Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, and the Kaleshwaram project, along with infrastructure development efforts.

Notably, KTR pointed out that while the state’s debt stood at ₹3,50,520.39 crore for the 2023-24 fiscal year, Telangana’s assets were valued at ₹4,15,099.69 crore, exceeding liabilities by ₹64,579 crore.
